The Makers Table is located on the south coast of the UK, at the Hotwalls Studios in Old Portsmouth. The Makers Table is the brainchild of three local contemporary artists Sarah Radford, Ruth Lacey and Emma Plato. Having taught creative arts together for many years, they had a vision to start a creative business of their own which would give them the opportunity to work together in a studio environment and develop their personal and collective practice.
The vision of The Maker’s Table is to act as a creative hub; as well as Sarah, Ruth and Emma producing their own work in the studio, they also offer a broad range of workshops, utilising their extensive teaching experience. The Makers Table studio is a place to enjoy the creative process and share good practice, to slow down, sit and make. Workshops include textiles, print, painting, tin sculpture, jewellery and illustration processes, and all are held within the Hotwalls studios, fuelled by plenty of tea and cake!
Sarah, Ruth and Emma’s shared influences stem from a number of sources including vintage design and their immediate natural, urban and domestic environments. The artwork created at The Makers Table is varied and eclectic, ranging from painterly florals and detailed entomological studies, to drawings and prints inspired by domestic objects, and sculptural and jewellery pieces in silver, recycled tin, painted wood and textiles.
